Rosie the Riveter was the star of a campaign aimed at recruiting female workers for defense industries during World War II, becoming one of the most iconic images of working women.

While the identity of the woman in the iconic poster is up for debate, the most credible claim on Rosie’s legacy came from Naomi Parker Fraley (1922-2018), who was photographed working in the machine shop of the Naval Air Station, at Alameda, California in 1942.  In her photograph, she is sporting a telltale, polka-dotted bandana.
