Maryam's Math is named for Iranian mathematician, Maryam Mirzakhani (1977-2017).
Only 40 years old when she died, Maryam transcended gender and ethnicity norms by becoming the 1st woman, and the 1st Iranian, to win the coveted Fields Medal, the mathematics equivalent of the Nobel Prize.
